As it arrived, the figured maple back and sides are particularly lovely. It comes with an original coffin case in good condition.

Photos inside the guitar show no damage but there is no hardwood plate beneath the bridge.

The label is a bit messy but I think the date is 1831.
The Rance machine heads are in good working condition.

There is not much wrong with this guitar but the soundboard does have one crack along the joint up to the bridge and another small crack between the bridge and the stern. Here, small pieces of wood are glued to the underside of the soundboard to ensure the cracks remain stable. Underneath the bridge a thin maple plate is added to protect the underside of the soundboard. Gravity was used to clamp the plate in place while the glue dried.

The first three brass frets are very worn and will need to be replaced. They are made from brass sheet. The photo on the left shows the new and old frets.

The guitar restoration was completed in February 2020.
