1826 PANORMO FECIT

NUMBER 727

A lovely small Panormo, the earliest I have worked on so far, is in the workshop for restoration and sale. Generally in very good condition, it has no bridge and a large crack in the back that must be made good.

It has ivory frets which will be left in place.

Back, heel and head. The guitar body is figured maple covered with a very dark varnish.

These tuning machines came with the guitar but are probably not original. The guitar was likely made with friction pegs and these machines replaced the wooden pegs. The old tuning machines needed a good bit of work, including two new bone handles and hours of rotation with valve grinding paste. They now they work very well.

The back needed complete re-barring as the original bars had warped badly and the soundboard join reinforcement had split.

The restoration completed in December 2019. The guitar fits very nicely into a 3/4 size guitar case.

Strung with Aquila Alabastro (Nylgut) strings, the tone is full full and vibrant.
